Literacy Specialist - California (Contract)

Remote - Los Angeles, CA

Heggerty is looking for talented literacy specialists to join our team on a contract basis. Contractors provide virtual professional development for schools, districts, and counties to equip teachers to implement Heggerty curriculum. Our ideal candidate is passionate about literacy and possesses a strong foundation in evidence-based literacy practices. 

This position would provide opportunities to collaborate with other members of the professional development team with a focus on supporting teachers to implement the Heggerty curriculum.  We are looking for someone passionate about literacy, eager to learn and collaborate with a small team, and excited to make a difference in literacy learning for all. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate professional development sessions for the Heggerty curriculum via webinar and in-person within the state of California
  • Act as a knowledgeable resource for participants, answering questions as needed during webinars
  • Manage logistics to coordinate PD sessions (i.e., send Zoom link and participants materials, follow-up email, etc.)

REQUIREMENTS

  • Curiosity, empathy, and a passion for our mission and values
  • Must have experience teaching the Heggerty curriculum 
  • Experience with Spanish dual-language instruction experience preferred
  • Prior classroom teaching experience required
  • Must possess a strong foundation in evidence-based literacy practices

TIME COMMITMENT

  • Literacy specialists must complete 3-4 weeks of virtual onboarding beginning in April 
  • Once onboarded, PD is scheduled on an as-needed basis, with at least one week's notice
    • Availability from June 1 - August 31 is required, as those are our busiest months
    • Must have availability for in-person travel within the state of California during peak season
  • Literacy specialists must have the availability to provide 5-15 PD sessions per month through the summer months 

EQUIPMENT

  • Contractors must supply their equipment, including a computer, microphone, webcam, etc.
  • Literacy specialists should have reliable internet as well as a quiet and professional workspace to deliver webinars via Zoom
